PARISH COUNCILLOR VACANCY

Rodmell Parish Council has 9 seats on the council and there are currently two vacancies to be filled by co-option. This means that anyone who would like to apply to join the council will need to complete and submit an application form. All applicants will be invited to the next parish council meeting on Tuesday 25th November and will have the opportunity to discuss their application before the council votes on whether to co-opt.

To be eligible to be a parish councillor, you will need to meet the following criteria:

Eligibility Requirements:

  • A British citizen or an eligible Commonwealth citizen
  • 18 years or over
  • Not disqualified by any statute
  • An elector of the Parish, or
  • Has resided in the parish for the past twelve months or rented/tenanted land or other premises in the parish, or
  • Has their main place of work in the parish, or
  • Has lived within three miles of the parish boundary

Information on this website, such as the 'Good Councillor Guide' gives a good overview of what is involved in being a councillor. You are also welcome to contact the clerk for an informal chat and more information. Please email Lorna Thwaites on [email protected] to arrange.

The parish council works on a variety of projects in the parish as well as being involved in reviewing planning applications, responding to local government consultations and liaising with East Sussex County Council and East Sussex Highways for required works. The role is an unpaid role but offers the opportunity to develop valuable skills and experience and contribute to your local community.
